“There’s no official announcement yet, but I don’t think you’ll hear the news that I’ll be coaching there next season,” Slott told reporters.
The BBC reported last month that Slott’s deal to replace Klopp was worth up to £9.4m.
The Hague: Feyenoord manager Arne Slott confirmed on Friday that he will replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager next season.
“There’s no official announcement yet, but I don’t think you’ll hear the news that I’ll be coaching there next season,” Slott told reporters.
The BBC reported last month that Slott’s deal to replace Klopp was worth up to £9.4m (€10.9m).
“I’m starting to feel like I’m leaving here. There are some people I don’t just want to shake hands with,” Slott said ahead of his final game for the club.
“At that time, it’s not about being a champion or winning a cup, it’s more about the feeling of gratitude between people,” he added.
Slott moved to Feyenoord in 2021 after impressing in his first managerial role at AZ Alkmaar.
At the end of his first season, he led the Dutch giants to the inaugural Europa Conference League final, where they narrowly lost 1-0 to Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
Slott helped De Kuip to their second league title in 24 years last season and has since signed a new three-year contract.
“I can see that people are really sorry to see you leave,” he said.
“I can say that in words, but when I see it on people’s faces, it affects me a lot.”
Feyenoord’s club website said a farewell party would be held at a raucous De Kuip Stadium after Slott’s final game against Excelsior.
Feyenoord had a strong season, winning the Dutch Cup and finishing second behind the all-conquering PSV Eindhoven with one game remaining.
However, Slott has only lost two league games all season and said: “If we win (Sunday), we will have 84 points, making us the second-best Feyenoord team in the club’s history.”
Under Slott, Feyenoord have delighted De Kuip fans with their attacking brand of football, with the 45-year-old even earning praise from Klopp himself.
“I like the way his team plays football. If he’s that player, I think that’s what he wants,” Klopp told reporters last month.
“This is the best job in the world, the best club in the world. Great job, great team, great people. It’s a really interesting job,” said Klopp.
Liverpool captain and fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk also praised Slott’s attacking mindset, saying it would suit Anfield’s philosophy.
“I think he could be Liverpool manager given his playing style and philosophy,” Van Dijk said.
A fan of Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola, Slott was a skilled forward with a reputation for passing the ball accurately. There is even one of his techniques named after him.
The Arne slot pass is a slight change of direction from the forward with his back to goal, splitting the defense and releasing the winger running away from the ball.
Klopp will step down at the end of this season after nine years as Liverpool manager, having won the Champions League title in 2019 and the Premier League trophy a year later.
Bayer Leverkusen manager and former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso was initially considered the likely candidate to replace Klopp.
However, Alonso committed to remain at Leverkusen after leading them to their first Bundesliga title.
