When and how did the trend of ‘ appearing between X and Y on your keyboard start?

Just like every anime or fictional character has an origin story, these internet trends also have a time and place in which they emerged. This “pause…” trend didn’t start yesterday, it first surfaced several years ago.

This trend has a connection to anime. This reportedly first appeared on his platform named 4Chan in May 2021. This platform was for people to share, post, and comment on images anonymously. This meme was related to a character from the Japanese anime series K-On. Its caption read, “Look between the T and O in your key, I’m bored (intentionally misspelled).”

The letters Y, U, and I appeared as the spelling for the series’ character “Yui.” This popular anime series focuses on girls who form a band through their high school’s light music club.

Then, one of the people at X (formerly Twitter) shared a familiar post related to K-ON! “My Hero Academia” will be released in April 2024. It was in the form of the original 4Chan post that started this trend, but eventually people started jumping on their own versions and getting creative there. Check out some creative and hilarious versions of this trend.
