Has this season been one of progress, stagnation or indifference?
That’s strange. You might think this season would be seen as a failure for a team relegated from the Premier League, but that’s not the case. Despite returning to the Championship, the Hatters are in a much better position than they were 12 months ago. There are millions of dollars in the bank that will go toward building a new stadium, a much better team than when we won the play-off final, and the players we sell in the summer to prove themselves in the Premier League. Now that you’ve proven it, it’s worth much more.
As a result, Luton will be one of the favorites to win the Championship next season. What a wonderful statement! The club was reborn after nearly going bankrupt 16 years before him. A pragmatic approach to league play has been successful.
What has been the club’s biggest success this season?
The unwavering support of the fans. The fans had watched the team lose 24 times but realised how difficult it is at this level and how hard it is to stay in the top flight. They kept supporting the team until the end. The players did their part. They gave it their all, played long periods in most games but just fell short. The supporters recognised this and were cheering them on as they came off the pitch in every game. Respect to them.
What is your biggest disappointment or frustration?
Big blunder of point deduction. It’s awful that Luton was involved from start to finish and the deductions/appeals/additions/interpretations/timelines aren’t clear. It wasn’t a big deal in the end, but it’s embarrassing that so many things happened throughout the season in the world’s top league.
What are the main items on the summer agenda?
Please support the director. Rob Edwards has been a central figure throughout an eventful season. For a young and relatively inexperienced manager, Tom Lockyer handled the situation admirably and subsequently tried to support his team through adversity.
I think he will stay because he likes the ‘experience’ he had at Luton, but players like Ross Barkley will definitely leave. The key will be for Luton to raise significant amounts of money for them and invest wisely. The scouting team at Kenilworth Road have had a great run over the past 10 years and will look to have another successful summer to replace top-class talent, including Barkley, who is a joy to watch and exudes thorough class. There must be.
