A fake officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and a former Islamabad police official have been arrested in connection with a kidnapping for ransom case in Rawalpindi, authorities said on Thursday.

The suspects, posing as law enforcement officials, abducted Mohammad Nazir, a businessman involved in the oil trade, from the Rawat area, Express News reported.

They falsely identified themselves as members of the FIA and Islamabad police while using wireless communication devices.

The kidnappers then demanded a ransom of Rs50 lakh for the victim’s release.

According to police reports, Nazir’s relatives filed a complaint with the Rawat police, leading to the registration of a kidnapping case.

The suspects later negotiated the ransom down to Rs15 lakh and instructed the victim’s family to meet them in different locations, including Chak Beli Mor.

A police team led by SHO Zahid Zahoor set up a checkpoint on the GT Road, where they successfully apprehended four of the kidnappers.

The victim, Nazir, was safely rescued, and police also recovered a vehicle and other items from the suspects.

However, two of the kidnappers, including the fake FIA agent and the dismissed police officer, managed to flee the scene. The police have launched a manhunt to capture the remaining suspects.

SHO Zahid Zahoor stated that the police are pursuing the fugitives and are confident they will be arrested soon.
