QUETTA:

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has uncovered alleged irregularities in recruitments carried out by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs in Balochistan, spanning the years 2006, 2011, 2013, and 2021.

Highly placed sources revealed that 14 to 18 individuals were appointed in violation of rules to positions in grades 11 through 18. A significant number of these appointees reportedly belong to the same family, including brothers, fathers-in-law, brothers-in-law, and cousins. At least two individuals are currently serving in grades 16 and 18.

No public advertisement was issued in newspapers for these positions, and minutes of the selection committee meetings, a mandatory requirement, are reportedly missing from the records. The then-director has denied signing any appointment orders related to these recruitments.

The ACE issued multiple notices to the department demanding records of the appointments, but officials allegedly evaded providing full documentation. In response to queries about two specific individuals, the department claimed their records were not available, yet these employees continue to draw regular salaries.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment has initiated a formal probe into the matter and is pressing for complete records. Sources indicate that the department has chosen to avoid cooperation rather than furnish the required information.

It is pertinent to mention that Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has repeatedly stated his administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption in any form. The ACE continues its investigation into these alleged fake recruitments within the Sports Department.
