With the much-awaited T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan fast approaching, security has been stepped up at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York due to the threat of ISIS. India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series for the last decade due to political tensions and as a result, they have only faced each other in international tournaments. As a result, there is a lot of excitement among cricket fans surrounding the match and the organizers are taking various measures to ensure that there are no security breaches during the match.
The threat from ISIS was a concern for fans attending the matches but local authorities have pledged to take strict measures, including working with other agencies, to ensure adequate security for cricketers and fans.
Nassau County Police Chief Patrick Ryder emphasized the far-reaching arrangement in a recent media interaction, likening it to presidential-level security.
“The scale and intensity of security for the India-Pakistan match will be even greater than that which hosted US president Barack Obama a few years ago,” Ryder said.
He also confirmed that the comprehensive security effort for the match will involve officers from the Nassau County Police Department in Suffolk County, New York, as well as agencies such as the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
