Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), Chief of Army Staff (COAS), is currently on an official visit to the United States.

During his visit, the COAS met with the overseas Pakistani community in Washington DC, where he was warmly received by a large gathering of diaspora members, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.

In his address, the COAS acknowledged the significant role played by overseas Pakistanis as ambassadors of Pakistan.

He highlighted their vital contributions to the nation’s economy through remittances, investments, and their achievements in various global sectors.

During the interaction, the COAS also listened to the experiences and suggestions shared by the community.

He emphasised the importance of sustained engagement with the overseas Pakistanis and the need for ongoing collaboration to address mutual challenges and enhance cooperation.

The overseas Pakistanis expressed their appreciation for the outstanding performance of the Armed Forces during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos / Marka-e-Haq, commending the bravery and professionalism displayed by the military.

Tensions between India and Pakistan sharply escalated after the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which resulted in 26 fatalities. India immediately accused Pakistan-based elements of orchestrating the attack, without presenting any evidence. Islamabad strongly denied the Indian claims calling for an independent probe.

India then took several drastic actions, including closing the Wagah border, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, and revoking Pakistani visas. Pakistan responded by labelling any disruption to water flow as an “act of war” and sealed its side of the Wagah border.

As the situation worsened, India escalated the situation with airstrikes targeting multiple locations within Pakistan. Pakistan’s military swiftly responded, downing five Indian fighter jets, including four Rafale aircraft, and dozens of Israel-made drones.

The hostilities reached a critical point, prompting both sides to agree to a full and immediate US-brokered ceasefire after days of military exchanges.
