BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech Athletic Director Jamie Joss has announced a restructuring of Florida Tech’s athletic department, promoting three staff members to strengthen support structures, expand leadership roles and foster stronger communication and organizational vertical leadership within the department.

“At Florida Tech, we continually strive to enhance the experience for our staff and scholar-athletes, and we are pleased to announce a strategic reorganization within the Athletic Department.”

“Promoting these three dedicated staff members marks a vital step for Florida Tech athletics. It will allow me to devote more time to corporate and personal philanthropy and expand our resources to develop our athletes into scholars, champions and leaders who exceed expectations academically, athletically and in the community.”

Jen Mercurio will transition from her role as associate athletic director/senior women’s administrator for NCAA compliance and scholar-athlete services to the role of associate athletic director.

In her new role, she will be responsible for the athletic directorships of women’s soccer, softball, men’s rowing and men’s and women’s swimming. Mercurio will continue to oversee NCAA compliance and scholar-athlete services. Additionally, as the senior women’s administrator, Mercurio will represent Florida Tech on various conference committees and help oversee and support Title IX and gender equity initiatives.

“Jen’s transition to Associate Athletic Director is a testament to her outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication to our organization and leadership in the Sunshine State Conference. I have no doubt Jen will excel in her new role, providing valuable support and oversight to our athletics programs while continuing her important work of compliance and supporting our student-athletes, underscoring her commitment to excellence and equity as a senior female administrator and ensuring Florida Tech continues to lead with integrity and inclusion. Jen’s contributions are a cornerstone of our university’s success, and I look forward to her continued impact in this expanded role.”

Florida Tech Athletic Director Jamie Joss has announced a restructuring within the Florida Tech athletic department, promoting three staff members to strengthen support structures, expand leadership roles and foster stronger communication and organizational vertical leadership within the department.

Tara Van Ness, associate athletic director for business operations, has been promoted to senior associate athletic director. Van Ness will continue to oversee business operations for Florida Tech Athletics and oversee volleyball, baseball, men’s cross country and track.

“Tara’s dedication and leadership have played a key role in propelling Florida Tech athletics to new heights. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and look forward to watching her continue to be successful in this expanded role. Her expertise in business operations ensures the department runs smoothly, and her expanded role as athletic director demonstrates our immense confidence in her abilities and our confidence that her passion, strategic thinking and unwavering support will enable our scholar-athletes and staff to reach their full potential.”

Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Communications Christina Hardman will expand her role within the department to become associate athletic director for external operations, where she will have direct oversight of Florida Tech’s athletic communications department, game operations, promotions and community engagement.

“Christina is perfectly positioned to spearhead this new role, which reflects her continued progress in learning and outcomes, as well as her strategic vision and commitment to excellence, will undoubtedly advance these areas and further enhance the scholar-athlete experience.”

“The synergy between sports communications, game operations, promotions and community engagement is undeniable. Christina’s deep understanding of each discipline and strategic vision make her the perfect fit to oversee these interrelated functions.”

“Her communications expertise will ensure Florida Tech Athletics maintains a robust and positive presence on and off campus, while her knowledge of game operations will ensure seamless and efficient event execution. Additionally, her passion for community service will foster meaningful connections with fans and supporters, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that strengthens the bond between Florida Tech Athletics and the surrounding community, fostering an atmosphere of support and collaboration.”

“This strategic reorganization reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and innovation to advance support and leadership within the division. I am confident that Jen, Tara and Christina will excel in their expanded roles and advance our company’s mission with integrity, inclusivity and excellence.”
