BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Four members of the Florida Tech men’s cross country and track teams have earned spots on the College Sports Communications Academic All-District Team, with the organizations announcing their selections Tuesday afternoon.

Luke Aagaard, Chinedum Ajabor, Brycen Hanner and Brennan Lackey will represent the Panthers on the CSC Academic All-District team.

Selected by the University Sports Communicators, the 2023 Academic All-District Men’s Cross Country and Track Teams celebrate the nation’s top scholar-athletes who have demonstrated an exceptional ability to balance academics and athletics through exceptional performance on the field and in the classroom.

Academic All-District winners will be considered for advancement in the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® First Team, Second Team, and Third Team winners will be announced in early December.

A junior, Agard is pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering and has maintained a 4.0 overall grade point average. His commitment was evident in his performance during cross country season, where he competed in four of five meets and set a personal best at the UAH Chargers XC Invitational with a time of 29:41.4 for the 8K.

The Tallahassee native’s determination shone through during the indoor season as he set three records in three different events. He and three teammates led the distance medley relay at the Celebration Point Classic with a time of 11:35.68, a top 25 time in the region.

Ajabolu, a graduate student, is pursuing a degree in computer science and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.71. Ajabolu broke three personal records during the indoor and outdoor track season. At the Bob Hayes Spring Break Invitational, she placed 26th in the 100 meters with a time of 12.40 seconds.

Ajabor and three other teammates also recorded a time of 45.76 seconds in the 4×100 relay, a time that placed them in the top 30 in the region.

One of Agard’s teammates at DMR was Hanner. The sophomore is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.69. He ran a career time of 28 minutes, 6.3 seconds in the 8K at the UAH Chargers XC Invitational. Hanner is competing in the 2023 SSC and NCAA Cross Country Championships.

He broke four personal records during the indoor and outdoor seasons: Hannah ended his sophomore season on a high by posting a personal best time of 16:39.17 in the 5,000 meters at the Embry-Riddle Running Elements Classic.

Lackey is a sophomore civil engineering major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.58. Lackey also set a personal record of 29:26.6 at the UAH Chargers XC Invitational.

He set career records in seven different events during the indoor and outdoor track seasons. The Wasilla, Alaska native set career records in the 800 and 3,000 steepleches at the UCF Knights Invitational with times of 2:06.56 and 10:36.24, respectively. His steeplechase times were good for 46th place and the best in the region.
