BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Director of Athletics Jamie Joss has announced a change at the helm of the Florida Tech men’s soccer program, with head coach Robin Chang and associate head coach Nick Robinson swapping roles within the program.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to Robin Chang for her exemplary leadership during her 19-year tenure as head coach,” Joss said. “A Florida Tech and Sunshine State Collegiate Conference Hall of Fame scholar-athlete and a key member of our 1988 national championship team, Chang’s accomplishments are etched in the history books of our program.”

“We look forward to his tactical acumen, leadership skills and dedication undoubtedly enriching the development of our scholarship-athletes and coaching staff as he assumes the role of associate head coach. Additionally, we look forward to Coach Chang being able to spend more quality time with his family as he continues to inspire and guide us all.”

Chan has led the Panthers to an impressive record of 147 wins, 114 losses and 36 ties in 19 seasons. Under his leadership, the team has made four NCAA Tournament appearances and reached the Final Four in 2023. Additionally, Chan has earned high praise, winning the Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year award three times and the USC Coaching Staff of the Year award twice.

Chang, a former Florida Tech scholarship athlete, was a forward for the Panthers in 1988 when Florida Tech won the first of its two NCAA Division II national championships.

“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and congratulations to Nick as he transitions in his role within the program,” Chan said.

“This next step in Nick’s career is something we’ve always wanted to do and the timing feels right for both of us. This is a natural progression for Nick and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him take that step as a part of our family. I will stand by Nick’s side and support him in every way I can as he leads us into the future.”

Associate head coach Nick Robinson will be the next head coach of the men’s soccer program.

Robinson has been a major contributor to the Panthers’ accomplishments since becoming part of the coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2021. His contributions earned him a promotion to associate head coach in December 2022.

“The promotion of Nick Robinson to head coach signals a new era for our men’s soccer program,” Joss said. “Recognized as one of the most accomplished coaches in the SSC and Division II, Nick’s impact reaches far beyond the field.”

“His natural ability to connect with scholar-athletes and his relentless recruiting efforts have played a pivotal role in the development of our program. A Florida Tech men’s soccer alumnus, Nick not only prioritizes success on the field, but also aligns recruits with our renowned academic program and Scholar-Champion-Leader ethos.”

During Robinson’s tenure, the Panthers achieved a remarkable record of 28 wins, 12 losses and 13 ties while also enjoying significant postseason success, with highlights including a Final Four appearance and Super Region II championship in 2023, an undefeated regular season in 2022 and the program’s first-ever Sunshine State Conference Tournament championship and Sweet 16 appearance.

“I’m very grateful to Jamie Joss and Robin Chan for entrusting me with the leadership of the men’s soccer program,” Robinson said.

“I am extremely eager to maintain the excellent standard we have set and elevate the program to new levels in both performance and cross-disciplinary impact. I am also excited to nurture the strong alumni relationships already built and continue to further strengthen our foundation.”

In 2023, Robinson helped develop junior defenseman Shure Drexler, the program’s first National Player of the Year.

Additionally, following this historic season, three Panthers received USC All-American awards, five were named USC All-Americans and four were selected for the D2CCA All-South Region awards, and six Panthers were recognized as All-SSC honorees.

In his first two seasons, the Panthers have had five All-SSC selections, most notably goalkeeper Luis Tovar Romero Sr., who was named Defensive Player of the Year, and the team has had 12 All-South Region selections from various organizations and two First Team All-American selections.

Academically, Robinson has coached three players to earn the prestigious Academic Honor All-America honors and seven more to receive All-District Academic Honor Awards.

Robinson and the Florida Tech men’s soccer coaching staff were named USC Division II Southern Region Coaching Staff of the Year in both 2022 and 2023 and were the 2022 SSC Coaching Staff of the Year.

Robinson, a former star player for the Panthers men’s soccer team from 2009-2011 and graduate assistant coach from 2012-2014, returned to Florida Tech after spending four seasons as an assistant coach for the Eastern Florida State College men’s soccer team from 2016-2020.

During Robinson’s tenure as an assistant coach, Eastern Florida State College enjoyed great success, leading the Titans men’s soccer program to an overall record of 55 wins, 14 losses, and 7 ties. Robinson and Titans head coach Oliver Twelvetrees were named the National Soccer Coaches Association Junior College Division I Southern Region Staff of the Year in 2019 after leading the Titans to a program-record 16 wins during the 2019 season and an appearance in the 2019 NJCAA National Championship Game. EFSC also appeared in the NJCAA Final Four in 2018.

The Titans have won three consecutive Region 8 (Florida) Championships, appeared in four consecutive District/Regional Final Championships and finished in the top 10 of the end-of-season NJCAA national rankings all four seasons. Additionally, EFSC earned its first National Player of the Year award in the 2019 season and has produced four NJCAA All-Americans.

A native of Victoria, Australia, Robinson enjoyed a decorated three-season career at Florida Institute of Technology, earning selection to the NSCAA All-South Regional team during his senior season in 2011 and the SSC All-Conference team in two of his three seasons with the Panthers.

After college, he became a graduate assistant coach for the Panthers from 2012-2014, working with Chang while earning his master’s degree. Florida Tech finished with a record of 15 wins, 14 losses and four ties in his two seasons as coach.

Prior to transferring to Florida Tech, Robinson played the 2008 season at Lees-McRae College, helping the Bobcats go undefeated in conference play all season. Lees-McRae won both the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament that season and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. Robinson earned All-Conference Carolinas team honors in 2008.

Robinson earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology in 2012 and his Master of Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology in 2013.

Robinson currently holds an NSCAA National Diploma, an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, a USSF C License and is working towards earning his USSF B License.

Robinson and his wife, Skylar, live in Melbourne, Florida, with their three children, Mason, Harper Jean and Tyson.
