WICOMICO COUNTY, Maryland — Eighteen flower baskets valued at $720 were stolen from Williams Market on Nanticoke Road. Both incidents happened in the middle of the night.

When the market closes, the entrance is blocked off with a fence. Now, whoever did this parked their car on the side of the road, climbed over the fence, and drove up to the display area at the front of the site where the flower baskets were hanging.

The first incident happened on Tuesday, May 21. John McCaig, who has worked at the market for six years, said the thieves arrived at about 10.30pm, when two people got out of a car and stole 10 flower baskets.

The second theft occurred two days later on Thursday, May 23rd, when eight flower baskets were stolen, with each flower basket valued at $40.

“This isn’t a big box store where they can recover their losses,” McCaig said. “This is a mom-and-pop shop. Why would you come and steal from a mom-and-pop shop?”

Barbara Crebon is a longtime Williams Market shopper, having frequented the family-owned store for more than 30 years.

“It’s very sad and infuriating that someone would cross the line and interfere in someone else’s private business,” Klebon said.

The culprit was caught on camera, but the footage and photos extracted from it are grainy and offer few clues. Photos can be found on the store’s Facebook page.

However, on Tuesday, May 28, the store installed two new cameras with high-definition technology.

“Hopefully they’ll come back and we’ll be able to get them,” McCaig said.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is aware of the recent thefts, but McCaig said it’s unclear if the two thefts were committed by the same person.

If you know anything about the person or know the identity of the person in the photo posted on Williams Market’s Facebook page, please contact the store or the Sheriff’s Office.
