Mumbai:
BJP leader Chandrakant Patil on Tuesday said Uddhav Thackeray had put in a lot of effort in the Lok Sabha election campaign but his allies the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (SP) seemed to have benefited more than his party.
Speaking at an event here, senior Maharashtra minister Patil said Thackeray was not feeling well but continued to campaign hard.
“Uddhav Thackeray’s health was not good but still he put in a lot of effort. We were worried about his health. But the results show that the NCP (SP) and the Congress benefited more from his efforts than his own party,” he said.
“When Thackeray was with the BJP, the party had won 18 seats in the Lok Sabha. The Congress and NCP (SP) together ended up winning only nine seats. He needs to introspect,” Patil further said.
Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) contested 21 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state but won only nine.
Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress contested 17 seats and won 13. The Indian National Congress Party leader and rebel candidate from Sangli parliamentary constituency also won and later declared his support for the party. The Indian National Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) contested 10 seats and won 8.
Patil further slammed Thackeray, saying, “Thackeray too was labelled as winning because of minority votes. The MNS leader also succinctly said that the colour of Uddhav’s victory was green and not saffron.”
