Former diplomat Amritsar Sandhu declares assets worth Rs 39.92 billion

CHANDIGARH: Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Amritsar seat and former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Friday declared total assets worth Rs 39.92 billion, as per his poll affidavit.

Mr. Sandhu, 61, filed his nomination papers in Amritsar on Friday for the June 1 Lok Sabha polls.

According to the affidavit, Mr. Sandhu declared movable and immovable assets owned by himself and his wife to be Rs 10.88 billion and Rs 29.04 billion respectively.

According to the affidavit, Sandhu has declared that he has 1.1 million rupees in cash, while his spouse Reenat Sandhu has 20,000 rupees in cash.

Sandhu does not have a car to his name. He has gold jewelery worth Rs 3.31 million and his spouse has gold jewelery worth Rs 29.81 million.

He declared that he had not been convicted in any criminal case.

Among his immovable assets, Mr. Sandhu owns agricultural land in Amritsar and residential properties in Amritsar, Gurugram and Delhi.

Sandhu has indicated his profession as a politician and former IFS, while his spouse is currently serving as the Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands.

He completed his Master’s degree in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi in 1984.

The former Indian ambassador to the US is the grandson of Teja Singh Samundri, who was one of the founding members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and played a key role in the Gurdwara reform movement.

Sandhu’s father Bishan Singh Samundari was the principal of Khalsa University in Amritsar and the first vice-chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University.
