ISLAMABAD:
Security forces arrested four Afghan terrorists in a successful operation near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border areas in Balochistan and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including Kalashnikov rifles, hand grenades and other firearms, sources said on Thursday.
They said that the operation was conducted in Toba Kakri area on Wednesday, adding that the arrested terrorists had confessed to infiltrating into Pakistan through the border, and were plotting a major terrorist attack in the country.
In his confessional statement, according to the sources, an arrested terrorist gave his name as Asamuddin, son of Gulshad. He admitted that he had come from Afghanistan three days ago, with two guns, two Kalashnikovs, a grenade, and other weapons. He added that he intended to go to Pishin.
The sources revealed that the local population played an important role in the success of the operation against the terrorists. Defence experts said that the locals fighting alongside the security forces against the terrorists was a welcome development.
Pakistan in recent times has seen an uptick in terrorist attacks in the country orchestrated from Afghanistan. Several Afghan terrorists had been killed in operations by the security forces in different parts of the country.
The dead Afghan terrorists include Badruddin, the son of the governor of the Afghan province of Baghdis. On February 28, another Afghan terrorist, Mujeebur Rehman, was killed, who was a commander at a military academy in Afghanistan.
According to defence experts, the main reason for the increase in terrorism in Pakistan was that the terrorist outfits were flourishing on the Afghan soil, which warranted immediate action at the international level.
