Rosemont, Illinois The United States Basketball Association announced Friday that four women’s basketball student-athletes have been selected to the 2024 U.S. 3×3 Women’s Nations League team to represent the Big Ten Conference. Christina Darcet (Maryland) Coty McMahon (Ohio State University) Lucy Olsen (Iowa) and Sera Williams (Wisconsin) will compete in the 2024 FIBA 3×3 Nations League Americas Conference from July 22-28 in Mexico City.

In April, Darcet and Olsen attended the 2024 USA Basketball Women’s 3×3 National Team training camp in Springfield, Massachusetts. The two competed in the 2023 FIBA 3×3 U21 Nations League and represented the USA U21 National Team in the 2023 FIBA 3×3 Nations League Finals, where they won.

McMahon is a two-time USA Basketball gold medalist at the 2023 FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup and the 2022 FIBA U-18 Women’s USA Championship (5-on-5). Williams will be making her USA Basketball debut.

According to FIBA, the seventh 3×3 Nations League will feature 13 conferences, including U-23 and U-21 teams. The 2024 FIBA 3×3 Nations League will feature seven conferences from Europe (three U-21, two from Africa and Asia, one each from the Americas and U-21 Asia-Pacific).

The Americas Conference will feature six three-game tournaments over seven days, with six team members able to rotate between the four entries on each day as needed.

For the first time, the FIBA 3×3 Nations League will be a qualification route to the FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup 2024. The conference winners will earn a spot in the event, which will be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from September 11-15. The 2024 FIBA 3×3 U23 Nations League will be streamed live on YouTube.

Unlike 5-on-5, 3×3 is played in the half court with a 10-minute game clock and a 12-second shot clock. Play is continuous as teams “clear” the ball behind the two-point line after a successful basketball, defensive rebound, or steal. The first team to score 21 points with a one-point field goal or a two-point shot behind the arc wins, or if time expires, the team leading wins.
