Four members of a family were killed and a fifth suffered life-threatening injuries in an apparent triple murder-suicide at a Maryland home late Thursday night.
Howard County police said the shooting happened at a home in Elkridge, about 14 miles southwest of Baltimore.
Authorities on Friday identified the suspected shooter in that incident as Nayyar Abbas Saeed, 61.
The suspect’s wife, Sayeeda Aaliya Nayyar, 57, his daughter, Sayeeda Fatima, 25, and daughter-in-law, Alizay Fatima, 33, were pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a statement to USA Today.
Police said the suspect’s son, Muhammad Ali Hamza, 31, was seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots
Police were called to the home around 10 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls from neighbors reporting hearing gunshots.
Dispatchers also received a call from the suspect saying he was going to shoot his family and then kill himself, police said.
Police said when officers arrived they found three women dead inside the home and Saeed and his 31-year-old son seriously injured.
Police said Saeed was taken to hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead early Friday morning.
Police said Syed was not living in the home at the time of the shooting.

The 3-year-old granddaughter was found unharmed inside the home.
Police said the suspect’s 3-month-old granddaughter was found unharmed inside the home.
“She will undergo a medical examination at the hospital and will be released into the custody of her family,” police said in a news release Friday.

Motive for the incident under investigation
A motive for the incident was not immediately clear.
The official cause of death for each of the victims remained under investigation as of Friday morning.
