Suffolk County police have released the identities of the four people killed Friday when an SUV crashed into a nail salon on Long Island.
Suffolk County police said in a release Saturday that the three people killed were Jen-Tsai Chen, 37, of Bayside, Queens; Emilia Renhack, 30, of Deer Park; Yan Xu, 41, of Flushing, Queens; and Meiji Zhang, 50, of Flushing, Queens.
Nine people, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured in the accident.
Police said customers and staff were at Hawaii Nail & Spa on Grand Boulevard in Deer Park when an SUV crashed through the windshield.
One of the victims, Lenn Hack, was an off-duty New York City police officer who had been at a nail salon at the time of the accident.
She was an officer with the 102nd Precinct in Queens. A New York Police Department spokesman confirmed her death on Saturday.
The New York City Police Benevolent Association said it was “heartbroken” by Lenhack’s death.
“Please join us in praying for her family, friends and colleagues,” the association said in a Facebook post.
All four of those killed died at the scene. Nine people, ranging in age from 12 to 58, were injured.
Four suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were being treated at a nearby hospital, while five others were also being treated at a hospital, police said.
The driver, Steven Schwary, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and police said Saturday that he remained hospitalized and would be arraigned at a later date.
Authorities allege the defendant was driving a Chevrolet Traverse southbound at a high rate of speed, driving through a parking lot, crossing Grand Boulevard and continuing through a nail salon parking lot, crashing through the window.
