Appearing on Saturday Journal Editing ReportThe Fox News contributor pulled out a whiteboard and ran through the latest numbers.
“We’ve seen a trend since the May 30 conviction in the New York case,” Rove said, noting that five of the six most recent major national polls, including one conducted by Fox News, have shown Trump either tied with or trailing the president. Joe Biden.
Rove pulled out a second whiteboard and explained the reasons for Biden’s rise in popularity.
“Biden is seeing a small uptick among women and older voters,” Rove said. “He’s still disappointing among women. Trump is doing better with blacks, Hispanics and young people compared to previous Republican bases and Trump himself. But this uptick is happening among independents, who are moving closer to Biden by about 9 points in recent polls.”
A prominent Republican strategist pointedly attributed Trump’s drop in approval ratings to his recent felony conviction in New York.
“Recall that in a survey conducted immediately after the conviction, 21 percent of independents said they would be less likely to vote for Donald Trump as a result of the conviction,” he said.
Rove’s analysis is unlikely to be convincing to Trump.
