The historic nature of National Donut Day, which falls on Friday, June 7, is not flawed.
While there are many fictional food-related “holidays” (among them the recently celebrated “National Hamburger Day” and “National Wine Day”), National Donut Day has historical roots.
In 1938, the Salvation Army established the first Friday in June as “National Doughnut Day” to honor the Salvation Army’s Doughnut Lassies (women) who traveled to France during World War I to provide doughnuts and other snacks to soldiers.
These days, the day has become a great opportunity for doughnut lovers (or doughnuts, as Krispy Kreme and other doughnut sellers call them) to get freebies, deals, and special treats.

Dunkin’ Donuts Day Sale, including donut-shaped sponges
On National Donut Day, Friday, June 7, customers can get a free classic donut of their choice with the purchase of a beverage at Dunkin’ Donuts, while supplies last.
You can also order limited edition donut-shaped Scrub Daddy and Scrub Mommy sponges (a clean collaboration with Dunkin’ Donuts) online for $9.98. Every order comes with one Scrub Daddy scrub sponge and one Scrub Mommy, which has a scrubbing surface on one side and a sponge on the other.
Crispy cream
On Friday, June 7, you can get a free doughnut with no purchase – special or “limited edition” doughnuts do not qualify for the promotion – and when you buy 12 in-store or at the drive-thru at participating Krispy Kreme locations, you’ll also get a dozen Original Glazed for $2.
Seven-Eleven
Members of the convenience store chain’s 7Rewards loyalty program will be able to purchase the glazed doughnuts for $1 on Friday, June 7.
Sheets
Friday through Sunday, June 7-9, get a free doughnut with the purchase of any Sheetz Bros coffee or instant coffee at any major gas station, restaurant or convenience chain in the Mid-Atlantic. Find this offer in the OFFERZ tab in the Sheetz app. Limit one per person. Offer is available while supplies last.
Tim Hortons
Members of the Tims Rewards loyalty program can receive a free doughnut with the purchase of any drink, including limited-time drinks like Cookie Butter Cold Brew and Cookie Butter Iced Capp.
Duck Donuts
On National Donut Day, Friday, June 7, customers will receive a free cinnamon sugar donut, no purchase necessary, available for pick-up in-store only.

◾ Casey: Members of the Casey’s Rewards loyalty program can get the doughnuts for free, and from Friday, June 7 through June 16, Rewards members can get six doughnuts for $4.99. Options include the new Oreo Dirt Cake Donut, a chocolate cake doughnut topped with vanilla icing, crushed Oreo cookies and gummy worms.
◾ Dutch Brothers Coffee: The coffee chain will be celebrating Donut Day on June 7 with the release of a special drink called the “Jelly Donut Shake.”
◾ GPM Investments: Members of the Fas Rewards loyalty program can get one free on buy one donuts on Friday, June 7. The day also marks the beginning of Free Fragile Fridays, when customers order a small frozen drink at participating convenience stores and scan it at the register to receive a free drink on any Friday in June. Convenience stores owned by ARKO and operated by GPM Investments include 1 Stop, Apple Market, Corner Mart, Dixie Mart, Fas mart, ExpressStop, EZ Mart, lash Market, Jetz, Market Express, Next Door Store, Roadrunner Markets, Rose Mart, Village Pantry, Scotchman and Young’s.
◾ Maverick and Kum & Go: The convenience store (Maverick is acquiring about 400 Kum & Go stores in August 2023) will offer Maverick’s Adventure Club and Kum & Go’s &Rewards members a 50% discount on doughnuts all day on June 7 (limit 10 per customer).
◾ Original Donut Shop Coffee: The coffee brand has partnered with country singer and brand ambassador Kelsea Ballerini to launch a special Ballerini Blend, which will be available on Keurig.com on Friday, June 7. According to the coffee maker, its “buttery, creamy vanilla flavor is frankly delightful and delightfully sweet.” With every purchase of Ballerini Blend, customers will receive 50% off an additional box of Original Donut Shop K-Cup pods.
◾ Shipley Donuts: On Friday, June 7, customers who purchase in person or order online using the code DONUTDAY24 will receive a free glazed doughnut.
◾ Stan’s Donuts: If you miss National Donut Day, the Chicago chain is offering a special Big Cat Combo starting Saturday, June 8.
