The world No. 1 player also showed her talent in Paris. World No. 1 Iga Swiatek extended her winning streak at Roland Garros to 20 matches with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Coco Gauff in the semifinals on Thursday. Swiatek will face Jasmine Paolini, who defeated Mila Andreeva in straight sets in the semifinals. Swiatek is the first Italian woman to reach a Grand Slam final in nearly nine years.
Swiatek, who has won two consecutive French Open singles titles, lost just one set en route to the final and is bidding to become just the third woman in the Open era (Monica Seles 1990-92, Justine Henin 2005-07) to win three consecutive French Open titles. If she wins Saturday’s final, she will also become the only woman to win four French Open singles titles, joining Henin (four times), Steffi Graf (six times) and Chris Evert (seven times). And at just 23 years old, she will be the youngest player to reach that milestone.
