The 2024 French Open men’s singles final on Sunday will be between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.
Alcaraz advanced after beating Jannik Sinner 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a hard-fought five sets in the first semifinal. Despite the loss, Sinner will rise to No. 1 in the ATP rankings after the French Open. Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Spanish star, who won Wimbledon in 2023 and the US Open in 2022, will be competing in his third career Grand Slam match on Sunday.
Zverev beat Kasper Ruud in four sets, 6-2, 2-6, 4-6, 6-2, to reach his first final at Roland Garros. The 27-year-old German has reached at least the semifinals in every year since 2021.
This will be Zverev’s second Grand Slam final since losing to Dominic Thiem in the 2020 US Open final.
This marks just the second time a member of the “Big Three” (Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer) has failed to win the tournament that Rafael Nadal has dominated for the past two decades, since Nadal’s first French Open title in 2005. Stan Wawrinka won the French Open men’s singles title in 2015.
