The unprecedented ruling handed down Thursday in former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial has sent waves of reaction across the country, including in the Rochester area.
News10NBC’s Brett Vetter took to the streets to hear what people had to say after the jury’s verdict was announced, and the guilty verdict resonated with nearly everyone he spoke to, from relief and satisfaction to defiance and determination.
Brett Vetter: “Trump has been convicted on all 34 felony charges. What is your reaction to that?”
Takiya Shiprin: “Praise God.”
Meanwhile, Anthony Marullo questioned the motive behind the incident.
Anthony Marullo: “I believe this verdict is the product of a political witch hunt.”
Both Shiplin and Marlo expressed disappointment with the other side’s response.
“The justice system works for everyone, and those who are outraged, would they be happier if Biden was president?” Shiplin asked.
“It’s a little worrying for people who are feeling happy and excited about this. I don’t wish this on people on the other side of the political spectrum,” Marullo said.
They said the full impact of the jury’s verdict won’t be known until Election Day.
Others, like Natasha, feel the ruling will not change anything: “I’m not surprised, but at the same time, do I really think anything is going to be done? No,” she said.
She believes that no matter what anyone thinks about the case, both sides are adamant that it won’t get anywhere.
