New York Giants running back Devin Singletary just joined the team as a free agent, but he knows head coach Brian Daboll better than most of his teammates. That’s because Singletary was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2019 when Daboll was still the offensive coordinator.
Singletary played three seasons under Daboll, who was traded to New York after the 2021 season.
During that time, Singletary learned who Daboll is, how he calls plays and how to anticipate the unexpected, so when asked to characterize Daboll’s play calling, he knew exactly what to say.
“He’s a fearless guy. He has no fear. He’s not afraid of failure. He just has a desire to excel, that’s the best way to describe it,” Singletary told reporters Thursday.
“You always have to be on your toes when you’re with Daboll.”
Singletary believes Daboll’s play-calling gave his team an edge against Buffalo, and ideally the Giants will see some of that fearlessness pay off this season.
Singletary spent his first four years with Buffalo before joining the Houston Texans last season and the Giants earlier this year. In his five-year career, Singletary has yet to surpass the 1,000-yard season mark. He had his best season in 2023 with Houston, rushing for 898 yards and four touchdowns for an average of 4.2 yards per carry.
