From Beyoncé in double denim to Kendall Jenner in understated overalls, urban cowgirls have taken street style by storm this summer, and supermodel siblings Gigi and Bella Hadid decided to give us all a lesson in Western fashion by getting on board with the horse girl trend in two different ways, on the same day, in the same city.
Gigi Hadid popped into a local general store in New York City early on the morning of Monday, July 15, to run an errand. She looked ready for a morning of pilates and an afternoon of line dancing in a straw cowgirl hat, a ribbed white tank top, black leggings, and paisley sandals.

Over the tank top, Hadid layered the same gold necklace she paired with a slip skirt last week. At the time, the jewelry added a sophisticated touch to an already dressy outfit. Here, the jewelry brought high-low contrast to Hadid’s understated look.

Gigi Hadid’s take on the horsegirl trend ultimately came down to one accessory: a ranch hand paired with a straw hat at Coachella. A little more uptown, Bella Hadid went a little harder with the bohemian-chic cowgirl theme.
Leaving her Bowery hotel, Bella Hadid wore cut-off denim shorts with a baby deer t-shirt tucked in (so cute!). She also carried a suede shoulder bag and completed the look with leather cowboy boots, the quintessence of rope and horse riding. (Hadid’s stylist, Molly Dixon, hasn’t yet revealed where she got the boots.) The look was a world away from the chic capris and white top she wore the night before. Whereas those looks were minimal and sophisticated, this look was pleasingly distressed around the edges.

While some celebrities are new to the horse girl trend, Bella and Gigi Hadid are prime examples. The two grew up riding horses and frequently visit their family’s farm outside of New York City, but Bella Hadid has reportedly traveled hundreds of miles further afield, moving to Texas to compete in barrel racing.
Their time at the stables has influenced the way the sisters dress, with Gigi rocking a roomy white skirt and Bella trying out everything from a Canadian tuxedo to the eyelet lace trend to vintage Gucci pants with a Western twist. After all, the trend is big enough for both of them.
