ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to attend the two-day World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Riyadh starting April 28. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday.
The two countries share friendly relations, and high-level official exchanges have taken place in recent years to further strengthen ties, with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan visiting Pakistan earlier this month. Earlier, the Pakistani Prime Minister met the Saudi Crown Prince in Mecca and discussed Saudi efforts to facilitate investments worth $5 billion.
“Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar will attend the World Economic Forum Special Conference on Global Cooperation, Growth and Energy to be held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, April 28-29, 2024 ” said a Foreign Ministry spokesperson. “They received an invitation from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Chairman of the World Economic Forum. I received it,” she continued.
Baloch said the opportunity would enable the Pakistani delegation to interact with foreign leaders and heads of international organizations.
“High-level participation in the forum is an important step in setting out Pakistan’s priorities, particularly in the global health architecture, inclusive growth, revitalizing regional partnerships, and the need to balance accelerated growth with energy consumption. “It will be an opportunity,” she added.
The Prime Minister will also attend the 15th Islamic Summit hosted by OIC to be held in Gambia’s capital Banjul on May 4th and 5th, where he will discuss various topics including Palestine, Islamophobia, climate change, and the current state of Islam. According to a press release from the OIC Secretary-General, the session will be held under the slogan “Strengthening unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development.”
Prior to the Islamic summit that Sharif will attend, a preparatory meeting of senior officials was held on April 30 and May 1 to discuss the meeting’s documents and submit a report to the preparatory meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM). is scheduled to be submitted.
“A preparatory CFM meeting will be held on May 1 and 2 to consider the results of the high-level meeting and submit its report to the summit,” the OIC said.
“Leaders of member states will discuss issues of youth, women, families, science, technology and information, as well as political issues in the Islamic world, in particular the Palestinian cause, economic, humanitarian, social and cultural issues.” , Muslim communities and minorities in non-OIC member states, and legal issues,” the OIC said.
The summit will also address issues such as hate speech and Islamophobia, promoting dialogue, climate change and food security.
“The 15th session will issue a final communiqué containing the OIC’s position on the issues submitted to the summit, resolutions on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and the Banjul Declaration,” the OIC added. Ta.
