ATLANTA — Gov. Brian Kemp is in South Korea; Channel 2 Action News I’m talking to him about traveling.

He is here to promote business opportunities in Georgia and strengthen the connections businesses already have in the state.

Kemp said: Channel 2’s Richard Elliott It wants to strengthen the relationships that already exist between Georgia and Hyundai, Kia and SK Battery.

It was also a chance for Kemp to tour the DMZ and raise his national profile.

In an exclusive interview, Kemp told Elliott that the DMZ doesn’t just mark the border between two nations, it marks the border between two ideals.

“I think this was really a reminder that there’s a thin line between freedom and democracy and tyranny,” Kemp said.

But while the DMZ visit raised his national profile for a possible future political career, Kemp was in South Korea on Georgia business.

Trending Stories:

Georgia is already home to some big Korean investments: the Kia Motors plant in West Point, the giant SK Battery factory outside Commerce, and most recently the Hyundai Meta plant in Pooler, where the company will begin building electric vehicles (EVs).

“The last three years have really been the largest investment in our state, with $10 billion in investment in 2023 alone,” Kemp said.

There have been concerns recently that the EV market has been softening.

But Kemp maintains that the recent market downturn is merely temporary and that Georgia investments will pay off handsomely.

“Richard, these companies aren’t making decisions based on what’s going to happen in a year. They’re really thinking about generational investments,” Kemp said.

Kemp said he is visiting South Korea to nurture existing relationships, but also to attract new prospects who want to invest in Georgia.
