roanoke, virginia – A group of Virginia Tech Carillion students heard stories of heroism and horror from a panel of medical workers who took part in a mission trip to Gaza.

Panelists include anesthesiologist Dr. Abdullah Brown, operating room and emergency room nurse Rana, and urologist Dr. Mazen Hasan.

They are each active members of Doctors Against Genocide, a group of medical workers who are organizing actions and interacting with federal officials to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.

The stories shared mentioned the chaos in Gaza during the war. Hospitals are full of patients but lack the resources and people to help.

Dr. Abdullah Brown has traveled to many conflict zones to provide assistance, but nothing compared to the scene in Gaza.

“We’re doctors, we’re surgeons, we’re anesthesiologists. This is the operating room. We’re looking at wounds in Gaza, and we don’t know what’s causing these wounds,” Brown said. the doctor said. “We’ll find bullets, and surgeons will find bullets. But the wounds are different from the bullet wounds we’re familiar with. Destruction, burns…like what we see. That’s not true.”

Until Friday, Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech School of Medicine had not held large-scale events to address attacks on medical workers in Gaza.
