With Matthew Murrell and Brandon Murray gone, JuJu Murray will be looking for a backcourt running mate for next season.
Enter Sean Pedula of Virginia Tech.
Pedula started every game (66) for Virginia Tech over the past two seasons. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 16.4 points and 4.6 assists and was named third-team All-ACC last season as a junior.
If you’re looking for comparisons in playing style, look no further than Grayson Allen, minus the dunks. In fact, Allen finished his senior season averaging 15.5 points and 4.6 assists on 37% shooting from deep.
Pedula’s shooting efficiency numbers are a little lower than expected, but he has been the top shot taker on a 19-win team for the second straight season. Perhaps with more talent around him, he could finish at a higher rate.
Senior guards don’t sit around waiting to jack sleaze. In fact, he’s great attacking the basket, not only looking to score, but also distributing the ball. He made five threes per game last season, which is great for this Rebels team next season, but Beard and his guys need him to make two of five. .
Virginia Tech made it to the NCAA Tournament his freshman year. Pedula led the Hokies in scoring as a freshman with 19 points, including three knockdowns from beyond the arc.
Arguably the most impactful transfer in this class to date, Pedulla will likely start alongside JuJu Murray by the time the 2024-25 season begins.
