
The IHSAA announced district hosts for the fall sports season at its most recent executive committee meeting.
Columbus East will host the Class 3A girls soccer district tournament with Columbus North, while in Class A, Monrovia will host the district tournament with Hauser.
Center Grove will host the 3A boys soccer sectional that includes East and North, and in Class A, Southwestern (Shelby) will host the sectional that includes Hauser.
Regional and territorial soccer sites for men’s and women’s soccer will be determined at a later date.
In volleyball, East and North are competing in the Class 4A regional tournament hosted by East Central, while Hauser is competing in the Class A regional tournament hosted by Trinity Lutheran.
The IHSAA also announced the sites for the North and South Regional and State semi-state tournaments for volleyball. The eight sites in the South Regional are Greenfield Central, Cascade, Monrovia, Bloomington North, Loogootee, Mitchell, Edinburgh and Charlestown. The four sites in the South Regional are Martinsville, Bedford North, Lawrence, Jasper and Columbus East. Teams will be assigned to sites for the Regional and State semi-state tournaments following the completion of district and regional tournaments.
Bartholomew County schools will not be changing the postseason venues for boys and girls cross country, boys tennis and girls golf.
The meeting also discussed that women’s lacrosse is now officially an emerging sport.
Three Bulldogs Head to Fargo
Three Columbus North wrestlers will compete in the USA Wrestling Cadet/Junior National Championships next week in Fargo, North Dakota.
Freshman Cohen Long will compete in the cadet 132-pound weight class. Freshman Justice Thornton will compete in the junior 144-pound weight class and freshman Evan Saevre will compete in the junior 190-pound weight class.
Cougars’ Scruggs commits to Anderson
Former South Decatur basketball player Jacob Scruggs has committed to play collegiately at Anderson University.
The recent graduate led the Cougars with 24.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.6 steals as a senior.
