International specialty insurer Hiscox has appointed Mary Boyd as chief executive officer of Hiscox USA. Boyd will take up the role on June 24, succeeding Kevin Kerridge, who will retire at the end of September. Kerridge will then serve in an advisory role before stepping down to explore other opportunities.
Boyd comes from home and auto insurance provider Plymouth Rock Assurance, where he led the independent agent business as CEO since 2018. He brings to Hiscox more than 30 years of experience leading significant transformation in a variety of businesses. Boyd began his career as an actuary and has held leadership positions at The Hartford, ACE, Explorer Insurance and Chubb.
Commenting on his upcoming role, Boyd said: “I am excited to join Hiscox and lead this talented team to its next level of success. Aki has a clear strategic vision for serving the insurance needs of small business owners across the country, which is reinforced by a consistent commitment to our partners and ongoing investments in our technology capabilities.”
“I am motivated by the opportunity to work with the team to drive innovation and profitable growth in this market.”
Referring to Aki Hussain, group chief executive of Hiscox, she said: “Mary’s insurance industry knowledge and expertise is exceptional and we are delighted to welcome her to the Hiscox business. Her extensive experience of setting up and leading insurance businesses in the US and her deep understanding of the US customer market will help us capitalise on future opportunities and grow our US business.”
Meanwhile, Boyd’s predecessor is saying goodbye to Hiscox after nearly 30 years at the company.
“Kevin played a key role in the beginning of our digital journey 25 years ago and has been central to building Hiscox Digital Services into the strong business it is today,” Hussain said. “We are extremely grateful for the deep expertise and drive that Kevin brings to the company and wish him every success in his next steps.”
