Holographic Eyes and Cheeks: The Latest Summer Makeup Trend

With Y2K fashion making a comeback, it’s no surprise that sparkle-forward beauty is on trend. A few years ago, glitter makeup was limited to gold and yellow, but now it comes in all colors of the rainbow.

“There are chrome shades that change colour when the light hits them – from pink to purple to lilac to silver. More than celebrities on the red carpet, I’ve seen influencers like Hailey Bieber sporting the holographic look on their social media profiles,” says Vibha Gussain, a Mumbai-based makeup artist.

This is also a result of beauty brands pushing product marketing through social platforms and influencer makeup launches. One of the most talked-about holographic products of late is Fenty Beauty’s Fuchsia Flex Gloss Bomb, an eye-catching plum lip gloss that gives off 1,000 watts of sparkle. It’s a superstar product that only requires a swipe of mascara to achieve the look.

“The thing about holographic products is that less is more,” explains makeup artist Mehak Oberoi.

For starters, Gussain recommends adding a touch of blush, defining your brows, cleansing your face, and then applying a glossy lip gloss, eyeliner, or eyeshadow. Chrome Eyeshadow

Ghussain has a palette of eight versatile chromatic shades from PAC Beauty Spotlight that can be used as both an eyeshadow and an eyeliner. She mixes it with a makeup mixing product like Duralin and uses a liner brush to accentuate her eyes. You can also mix it with Duralin to create a liquid highlighter.

Holographic lips

Oberoi believes Fenty Beauty makes “amazing holographic products,” and while Fuchsia Flex has been the talk of the town, Oberoi suggests the Gloss Bomb collection will come in a range of colors.

Pigmented eyes

Oberoi recommends Pat McGrath’s palette, which is highly pigmented and has a wide range of colors.
