House of Representatives Election Results Live Updates: Election Commission submits list of newly elected members to President today

Lok Sabha Election Results: TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu, Janata Dal (United)’s Nitish Kumar and PM Modi.

New Delhi:

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will meet President Drupadi Murmu today to present a comprehensive list of newly elected MPs and inaugurate the formation of the 18th Lok Sabha of India.

The president will then ask the largest party to form a government.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution to elect Narendra Modi as the party leader for the third time.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 293 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, surpassing the 272-seat majority requirement.

NDA leaders met at Modi’s residence to review the results and discuss forming a government. The delegation also included Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu and Janata Dal chief Nitish Kumar, who need a combined 28 seats for the BJP coalition to remain in power.

Update | The AAP will convene a meeting of all Delhi’s MLAs at 5 pm today at the Chief Minister’s House. The meeting has been called over the election results. The meeting is expected to be attended by all senior party leaders.

Home Minister Amit Shah arrived at BJP National President JP Nadda’s residence. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also present at the residence.

PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on Saturday: What we know so far

Narendra Modi is expected to be sworn in as prime minister for a third consecutive time on Saturday after allies elected him as their leader at a key meeting in Delhi yesterday, NDTV sources said.

The swearing-in ceremony on Saturday is expected to be attended by leaders of neighbouring countries including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Nepal.

‘If he is a kingmaker…’: Tejashwi Yadav speaks about Nitish Kumar’s role in the NDA

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should use his position as a “kingmaker” in the NDA to ensure special status for Bihar.

On Wednesday, pictures of the RJD leader sitting with his former boss on a Delhi-bound flight went viral on social media. Both the NDA and INDIA parties flew to the national capital to hold a meeting following the failure of the BJP to secure a majority in the Lok Sabha elections.

The opposition Indian Union will sit in opposition for the time being despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party “subverting the will of the people,” Indian National Congress Party leader Mallikarjun Kharge said today. But there was a caveat: “The Indian Union will continue to resist the fascist regime…We will take appropriate steps at the appropriate time to fulfil the aspirations of the people that they do not want to be ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party,” Kharge added, reading out a statement adopted by all alliance partners after a strategy meeting at his Delhi residence.
