The Olympics have begun in Paris!

In terms of medal count, the United States is the favorite to win the most medals. China is unlikely to overtake the United States in total medals, but it could win more gold medals than the United States.

The last Summer Olympics where the United States failed to win a gold medal was the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The host country always wins more medals, but France is expected to win almost three times the gold medals it won in Tokyo.

America’s first medal
What’s the best way to kick off the first day of Olympic competition? Cook ‘n’ Bacon.
Those were the US team’s Cassidy Cook and Sarah Bacon, friends since they were eight years old, who won the silver medal in the women’s synchronized three-meter springboard final.
This was the U.S. team’s first medal at the 2024 Games.
USA and Australia continue pool rivalry
The American foursome of Jack Alexie, Hunter Armstrong, Caleb Dressel and Chris Juliano won the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay, earning the U.S. team its first gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
The United States won its third Olympic title in the event with a time of 3 minutes 9.28 seconds.
Australia came second in 3:10.35, while Italy took the bronze medal in 3:10.70.
Watch as the USA team took second place behind Australia in the 4x100m freestyle final and narrowly beat China to win the silver medal.
Australia defied the odds to beat the United States to win the gold medal in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, setting an Olympic record in three minutes 28.92 seconds.
The U.S. team won the silver medal in an American record time of 3:30.20, while China took the bronze medal.
The four swimmers who won medals for the U.S. team were Simone Manuel, Kate Douglas, Gretchen Walsh and Tori Huske.

Katie Ledecky, Gretchen Walsh Shine
In the individual final, star American swimmer Katie Ledecky won her 11th title.Number On Saturday, he won an Olympic medal: bronze in the 400-meter freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
She finished in a time of 4 minutes 0.86 seconds, behind Australia’s Ariarne Titmuss, who won her second consecutive gold medal in the 400 meters in 3 minutes 57.49 seconds.
Meanwhile, Gretchen Walsh of Connecticut broke the Olympic record in the women’s 100 butterfly semifinals with a time of 55.38 seconds, attempting to beat her own world record of 55.18 seconds.
Fellow American Tori Husk recorded the second-best time in the semifinals with 56.0 seconds.
The 100m butterfly final will take place on Sunday at 2:40pm ET.
