Bring the sunset into your makeup this spring and summer with the viral “sunset blush” technique, which requires the use of two liquid blush shades and a liquid highlighter or illuminator.
Pick up a hot pink, orange, or yellow blush and apply two dots of the pink shade first, then two dots of the orange shade. Next, swipe the highlighter directly above your cheek dots, but be careful not to overlap the product. Finally, gently blend the product and lift your blush just above the end of your eyebrows to accentuate your gorgeous, highly pigmented gradient makeup.
This trend looks great on any skin tone, as evidenced by the numerous videos on social media of content creators experimenting with the technique or remixing it in different colors. The trend was started by influencer Alyssa Janney, who wrote in an Instagram caption that she used Elf Cosmetics’ Camoly Kid Blush in shades of “comin’ in hot pink” and “gorg orange.” The blush shade is available for purchase on her $7 USD on the brand’s website.
She also used Milani Cosmetics’ Strobelight Liquid Highlighter in the shade “Pure Gold” to create a shimmering sunset effect. You can purchase this highlighter from the same brand on her Amazon storefront for $20 USD.
