Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has expressed disappointment at his team’s shock exit from the group stage of the T20 World Cup. However, Imad suggested that the team’s disappointing result could be a blessing in disguise, as it gives the players an opportunity to self-analyse and think about what they need to do to avoid such humiliation in the future. Imad, along with veteran pacer Mohammed Amir, have been recalled to the squad for this tournament following their performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“Bad things have happened but it may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. It (the T20 World Cup failure) needs to be reconsidered… (we) need to play the white-ball the way it should be played,” Imad said at the post-match press conference.
Expressing his views on the harsh criticism of wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan’s physical fitness, Imad said he has never criticised anyone’s physical shape or targeted anyone personally.
“You said I am also an analyst but I have always spoken only about cricket. I have never spoken about any individual, I have never criticised anyone’s form or spoken about any person personally. A cricketer’s job is to analyse cricket and tell what is going well and what is not,” he added.
Imad said the loss was a tough one for the players in the dressing room to accept and claimed they were more disappointed than the fans.
“There were other teams that got eliminated in the group stage. It’s very disappointing. We are more disappointed than you because this is our job. It’s all about how you get up after you fall and approach the world, how you react,” he further explained.
He concluded by urging fans not to forget the human element while post-morteming the team’s performance.
“I want to tell the Pakistani people that we did not perform and it is us who are to blame. I just want to say one thing – we are human beings too, we make mistakes and we are sad about it,” he concluded.
