If the international competition is any indication, Nebraska volleyball will continue to shine.
Featuring two current University of Nebraska volleyball players and two future Huskers players, the U21 Team USA women’s volleyball team is off to a strong start at the NORCECA (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball) Continental Championships with a 2-0 record.
Coming off their freshman seasons at Nebraska, setter Bergen Riley and middle blocker Andy Jackson showed why they were named to the All-B1G first and second teams, respectively.
Outside hitter Teraya Sigler and setter Campbell Flynn will both join the Huskers in the class of 2025 and are confidently presenting themselves to Nebraska fans.
In the sweep of the Dominican Republic on June 25 (25-18, 25-21, 25-11), both Riley and Jackson started and played impressively.
Riley led the attack, leading the U.S. team to a .333 hitting percentage and dishing out 33 assists in addition to five digs and one ace. She looked more consistent as the match went on, increasing her assist numbers in each set, recording eight in the first set, 12 in the second and 13 in the third.
Jackson contributed on both ends of the floor, recording eight kills on just 10 swings and continuing his contributions on the defensive end from the NCAA match with four blocks.
Sigler recorded six kills and one block on nine swings in the match, ranking third on the team in points.
Flynn started as setter against Suriname on June 26, with Jackson and Sigler also in the starting lineup, but the match was over as quickly as it began, with the U.S. team dominating Suriname, 25-10, 25-5, 25-9.
Flynn got off to a fast start, picking up 12 assists in the first set, four in the second and seven in the third. With Riley serving in the second set, she took over and finished the set at setter, dishing out eight assists.
Flynn finished with 23 assists, one kill and an incredible five aces. Sigler only swung the ball four times but made the most of it with three kills, while Jackson recorded five kills on six attempts.
Team USA has one game remaining in Group A pool play, facing Puerto Rico on June 27.
