Wasim Akram makes huge revelation about rifts in Pakistan team© X (Twitter)
Pakistan’s cricket team has been in the spotlight ever since their defeat to underdog USA in the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024. After losing to USA, Pakistan lost to arch rivals India, a match that showed Pakistan as a near favourite to win the tournament. After Pakistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup, Wasim Akram, one of the team’s best players, raged in front of the cameras and said he didn’t want to root for the team anymore. Akram also highlighted issues within the team, saying players were not speaking to teammates over personal issues.
“I can’t bring that (killing) instinct into them. It has to come from within,” Akram told Star Sports ahead of Pakistan’s match against Canada in New York, which Babar Azam’s side ultimately won in style.
“Enough is enough, I have supported them enough, now I don’t care if this goes viral,” Akram said in a conversation with former India opener Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Akram also “revealed the truth” that the players are not speaking to each other. Though he did not name any names, Akram dropped some subtle hints.
“Someone has to tell the truth about the Pakistan cricket (team). It’s getting a bit out of hand. Someone is in a bad mood, this person is not talking to that person, guys what is going on here! An entire nation’s emotions have been played with, there is a limit to everything,” Akram said angrily.
Earlier, the legendary fast bowler had called for the senior team to field a new squad due to the overall slump in Pakistan cricket.
“Enough! It’s over! Let’s bring in new kids and have a new Pakistan team. The entire Pakistani community back home and here (in the US) is depressed. They were celebrating that we have beaten (India) after a long time and against such a strong team. But they (Pakistan team) said, ‘No, we don’t want to win at any cost’,” Akram said.
“Now they should look at themselves in the mirror and tell themselves they are not going to play now. My advice to them (Pakistan Cricket Board) is to play with a new team, new kids. We are losing anyway. Develop the kids and in a year’s time the team will be ready.”
