Towson, Maryland, July 26, 2024 – The International Association of Machinists, Aerospace Workers (IAM) Coalition of Retail Union Employees (IAM CORE) has reached a tentative agreement with Apple that improves work-life balance, raises wages and ensures job security. Workers at Apple’s Towson, Maryland, store, the first in the country to form a union, are scheduled to vote on the tentative agreement on August 6.

“From the beginning, the mission of the IAM CORE has been to make Apple better for our employees, customers and communities.” The IAM CORE Negotiating Committee stated:“By reaching a tentative agreement with Apple, we’ve given our members a say in their future and taken a strong first step toward even greater benefits. Together, we can build on this success store by store and grow the power IAM CORE started here in Maryland.”

Highlights of the interim three-year agreement include:

– Work-life balance: Improve schedules while protecting both current and part-time members.

– Pay Increases: Average 10% pay increases over the life of the contract, with 80% of positions receiving an increase in starting salary.

– Job security: Contract employee restrictions and severance clauses.

– Transparency: fair and clear disciplinary procedures with safeguards and accountability.

The agreement maintains all current benefits and includes an agreement to negotiate future additions.

“It’s a true partnership between IAM, the IAM CORE, and Apple employees that has brought us to this historic moment.” IAM Eastern Territory Vice-Chairman David Sullivan said:“IAM District 4 Business Manager Jay Wadley and other members have brought their knowledge, experience and tenacity to the daily negotiations. We are incredibly proud to be the first union to take on this fight on behalf of Apple workers.”

IAM CORE represents approximately 85 employees at Apple’s retail store in Towson, Maryland. IAM CORE members include: In June 2022, it became the first Apple retail store in the United States to unionize. They had been negotiating with Apple management since January 2023. In May 2024, IAM CORE members Overwhelmingly approves strike sanctions against Apple The management continued to drag out the negotiations.
