The iF Design Trends Report 2024 is a valuable resource for understanding how design is adapting to the rapidly changing landscape of technology, society, and the environment. Produced in collaboration with Frankfurt’s The Future:Project, this report provides an interdisciplinary perspective on the interaction between design trends and major technological and social transformations. This year’s report (available for free until July 19, 2024) explores his six key themes that will shape our future: human digitality, the conscious economy, ecotransition, glocalization, the mind-shift revolution, and collaboration. It is structured around society. To complement this report, iF Design held its first trend conference in Berlin this April, the day after the iF DESIGN AWARD NIGHT gala.
The trend report design is functional and highly visual, an interactive PDF that allows readers to move non-linearly between different sections. Each trend identified is clearly defined and supported by data, insights, and case studies. Use sidebars and footers for navigation to easily and quickly access relevant information.
This iF Design Trends report is characterized by its extensive coverage and multidisciplinary approach. The process included analysis across a range of industries, combining expert perspectives with the results of the iF Design Award, which received 10,800 entries from 72 countries. This extensive dataset richly reflects the current developments in the design world and covers a variety of countries including Austria, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and Japan. Analyzed with experts. America.
To celebrate the report’s launch and bring its insights to life, iF Design held its first Trends Conference the morning after the awards ceremony in Berlin. Moderated by Lisa Guralnek, U.S. Managing Director and Global Head of Sustainability + Impact at iF Design, five engaging speakers touched on the themes of her trend report, highlighting recent research and achievements. announced.
Anne-Liese Prem discussed “The Future of Branding in the Metaverse” and explored how brands can evolve in the modern, emerging digital environment. Her presentation aligns with the Human-Digitality section of the Trends-Her report, which explores how design humanizes technology and how digital interaction by fostering communities within the various virtual worlds of the Metaverse. We wanted to find out how to make it more intuitive and emotionally appealing. These trends highlight the growing importance of creating user-friendly and emotionally resonant technology experiences, and Prem contextualized them within digitally rendered virtual worlds. .
Bridging human digitality to the conscious economy In two sections of the report, Ziyuan Zhu presents “Humanizing AI in Design,” which integrates AI as a collaborator in the design process and builds on the 1990s Tamagotchi. We focused on investigating AI embedded in physical objects from to the present day. This year’s hottest new item is rabbits. Zhu highlighted the importance of tone of voice, mannerisms, and unpredictability as factors that make AI more approachable. She also points out how the rise of AI technology is reshaping work environments to make them more efficient and adaptable. This is a clear example of a “conscious economy” focused on moving from a performance-based society to one that values creativity, health, and sustainability. And collaboration.
Nadine Clarke and Richard Trigg from Tangent London spoke about “Green Interfaces: Digital Design with Sustainability in Mind,” discussing how sustainable UX principles can reduce the carbon footprint of digital products and services. The duo provided a list of best practices and tools, such as Eco Grader, to quickly assess and optimize the energy consumption of any website. Their talk coincided with the EcoTransition section of the trends report, which focuses on how design can drive climate action and sustainability through three main tasks: design for circularity, design for climate adaptation, and design for regeneration.
Julia Frittoli of the Bjarke Ingels Group gave a talk titled “Social Nature – Designing Cities for People and the Planet” and provided detailed information on the company’s Gelephu Mindfulness City project in Bhutan. Through case studies, we emphasized the integration of nature and urban space.
