Say only two brief notes submitted; Info minister Tarar claims detailed medical report handed over to family

The sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan urged Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi on Friday to issue a contempt notice to jail authorities for allegedly failing to comply with his orders regarding the provision of their brother’s medical reports to his family.

The Pakistan Institue of Medical Sciences (PIMS) previously confirmed that Imran was brought to the hospital, where, after his consent was obtained, he was administered an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection to treat a right central retinal vein occlusion. The PTI rejected the PIMS report on Imran’s eye treatment, demanding that he be treated at Shaukat Khanum Hospital and that his family be allowed to meet him.

In addition, PTI leaders had held a day-long sit-in outside the Supreme Court (SC) and managed to secure assurances that the authorities would provide the medical report of the incarcerated leader to his family. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja had held a 30-minute meeting with CJP Afridi, during which the PTI’s concerns were formally conveyed. The chief justice, along with the attorney general and the SC registrar, had assured that the medical reports would be provided to Imran and his sisters, and that his personal physicians would be granted access to him once the reports were received.

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai had also written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, raising concerns over the health of the jailed PTI founder and seeking the premier’s personal intervention to allow a comprehensive medical examination by a team of “trusted doctors”.

In a post on X today, Aleema Khanum and Noreen Niazi said that the chief justice had committed last week that Imran’s medical reports would be provided to his family. However, they claimed that when the Adiala jail superintendent appeared before the anti-terrorism court (ATC), only two brief notes were submitted instead of a detailed medical report.

“This conduct reflects a complete disregard for the authority of the chief justice of the Supreme Court. We urge Chief Justice Yahya Afridi to issue a contempt notice to the jail authorities and ensure that Imran Khan’s medical reports are handed over to his family without any further delay,” they said.

Shortly thereafter, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said in a post on X that a detailed medical report of Imran was already handed over to the family.

“On the directions of the Prime Minister’s Office, a detailed medical report was prepared by the executive director of PIMS Hospital and sent to the Superintendent of Central Jail Rawalpindi (Adiala), which has been handed over to the family,” Tarar wrote.

A letter was written by the Leader of the Opposition to the Prime Minister and PTI Leaders also approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding medical check up of Mr Imran Ahmad Niazi who is serving his sentences in Central Jail Rawalpindi (Adiala)
