How can I track the action?

You can watch every ball live on Sky Sports Cricket or NOW and if you’re on the go, follow the live blog across Sky Sports’ digital platforms for the latest scores, match updates and the best video.

Who do you think will win?

Bookmakers are predicting India to be favourites, having won six of their seven matches against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup so far, including the last tournament in Melbourne, Australia in 2022.

Wasn’t that when Virat Kohli played a match-winning innings?

And it certainly was. Kohli scored 82 off 53 balls and India reached the target of 160 off the final ball in an extraordinary finale. Kohli’s team was 31-4 after 6.1 overs but the Melbourne Cricket Ground crowd was enthralled, needing 48 with 18 balls to go.

Virat Kohli

Let’s take a look back at Virat Kohli’s brilliant batting display against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup at the MCG.

That’s dramatic. Can you tell me more about it?

In the 18th over, Kohli smashed two leg-side fours off Shaheen Shah Afridi and another through extra cover to help India reduce the required run to 31 from 12 balls, while he smashed consecutive sixes off Haris Rauf at the end of the 19th over – first a magnificent strike over the bowler’s head and then a brilliant flick over leg – to reduce the required run to 16 from six balls.

So, what happened?

How it all began! Hardik Pandya was run out by Mohammed Nawaz off the first ball of the final over, ending his stand of 117 with Kohli and giving Pakistan a huge advantage as India could only score a total of three runs off the next two balls. The target was 13 runs off four balls…

So what was the final development?

Nawaz went off the radar. A full toss from the spinner bowler was smashed by Kohli for six and, even worse, ruled a no-ball for height, giving India seven. An exhausted Nawaz bowled the next ball wide, while India picked up three after Nawaz bowled Kohli with a free hit that landed in the deep third. Now they need two for two…

Two years ago, Kohli played a starring role when India beat Pakistan in Australia.

And what happens after that?

Further drama: Nawaz had a friend. Sky Sports Dinesh Karthik brought Pakistan back into the game with a stomp off the fifth ball of the over, but then bowled another wide, this time down the leg side, to tie the score with one ball to go. Ravichandran Ashwin chipped the last ball to mid-on for a single to seal a famous win for India and break Pakistan’s hearts.

Poor Pakistan! Have they ever beaten India in the World Cup?

They have done so just once in both 50-over and 20-over matches. In the longer white-ball format, they have now lost eight from eight, following last year’s disastrous performance in Ahmedabad, where they lost their last eight wickets for just 36 runs to tumble from 155-2 to 191 to lose by seven wickets.

So when did this victory happen?

Pakistan’s only win against India in the World Cup came in 2021 in the UAE, and it was a huge one indeed. Babar Azam’s Pakistan won by 10 wickets in the group stage of the final T20 tournament that year. India were restricted to 151 for 7 in Dubai before Babar (68no) and Mohammed Rizwan (79no) took Pakistan past that total with 13 balls to spare. The boys in green will be hoping for a repeat result on Sunday.

Watch India vs Pakistan live in the Men’s T20 World Cup in New York Sky Sports Cricket and Sky Sports Main Event Sunday. Preparations begin at 3pm ahead of the first ball at 3.30pm.
