According to reports, top political party leaders from the Indian opposition camp are scheduled to meet on June 1, the day of the seventh and final round of India’s 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The meeting was convened to review the elections and discuss the coalition’s future course of action. The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on June 4.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), seeking a record third term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is targeting 400 seats in the upcoming election. The ruling coalition is taking on the opposition, led by the Indian National Congress, under the banner of the United India Party.

The meeting was convened just a day before Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been on interim bail since May 10, has to surrender himself to Tihar Jail in connection with the Delhi government’s now-repealed liquor policy.
Kejriwal will also be attending the meeting along with other top leaders from the Indian bloc.
Kejriwal’s Ahmed Aadmi Party (AAP) has allied with the Indian National Congress to contest the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, Gujarat, Goa, Chandigarh and Haryana, but the two parties will contest separately in Punjab’s 13 parliamentary seats on June 1.
The Indian National Development Alliance (INDIA) is an opposition alliance announced by leaders of 28 political parties to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections.

The alliance’s first meeting was held in Patna, Bihar in June 2023. The Patna meeting was hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. However, Kumar and his Janata Dal United later switched sides to the NDA.
By the end of the sixth phase of voting on Saturday, elections had been held for 486 of India’s 543 lower house seats.
