Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi on Thursday supported his mother Maneka Gandhi in Sultanpur constituency and spoke about the special connect she had with the people of the constituency.
Varun was on Thursday campaigning for his mother, BJP candidate and current Sultanpur MP.
Addressing a rally in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Varun said, “Elections are being held in 543 constituencies across the country. There are strong candidates running in many places, but in Sultanpur constituency… It is the only constituency where no one calls the MP ‘Mantri ji’ or ‘Sansad ji’ or calls him by his first name. Instead, everyone calls him ‘mother’.” Told.
Sultanpur is scheduled to vote on May 25 in the sixth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Gandhi paid tribute to the role of mothers, likening it to a divine force. He emphasised that mothers are known worldwide for their protection, fairness, help in times of need and unfailing love. “A mother is considered a divine force, comparable to God, because she never leaves your side even when you are not sure the whole world is on your side. Today, I am not here only to show my support for my mother, I am here to show my support for the mother of Sultanpur. The definition of a mother is a force that protects everyone, does not discriminate, helps in times of need and always has love in her heart for everyone. A mother’s scolding is also a blessing,” he said.
“Ten years ago, when we first visited Sultanpur to contest elections, people said, ‘Sir, the vibrancy that exists in Amethi, the vibrancy that exists in Raibareli, we want the same vibrancy in Sultanpur too.’ Today, when the name of Sultanpur is mentioned in the country, I am very happy that Sultanpur is mentioned at the forefront of mainstream opinion,” Varun added.
About Maneka Gandhi’s son
Earlier, Maneka Gandhi expressed her wish for her son to be happy despite the political turmoil. Asked about Varun’s anti-BJP stance since 2019 and rumors that he has been dropped from the BJP’s ticket list for the 2024 Indian Parliament elections, Maneka stressed that her main concern was her son’s health.
“I just want to see him (Varun Gandhi) happy. What more can you ask for in life,” she said.
Asked about Varun not contesting from Pilibhit in UP, where he has been a three-time MP, Maneka said she was ready to help her campaign in Sultanpur. “I had asked Varun to campaign and he agreed to campaign for me. That’s why he came to Sultanpur. Whatever happened is over now and we need to discuss it further. Opportunities come with capability and it is a misconception in every political party that only MPs run the party. The BJP has over one crore members. There are around 300-400 MPs, why are there no leaders in the party apart from the MPs? If there is capability then there will always be a way.”
Sultanpur constituency
The Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency is set to be a fierce three-way contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
The current BJP candidate is Mr. Maneka. The SP elected Rambuar Nishad to replace Bheem Nishad while the BSP fielded Udraj Verma.
