NEW DELHI: The Indian National Congress on Thursday alleged that despite repeated promises, the Bharatiya Janata Party government has “failed” to provide permanent employment opportunities in Haryana and is instead promoting temporary contract employment through the Skilled Employment Corporation.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posed a question to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of a rally in Mahendragarh, Haryana.
“Outgoing Chief Minister. Now that I have his attention, these are the questions I would like to ask him today in Mahendragarh: Who made Haryana number one in unemployment? Why has the BJP slowed down private investment in Haryana? Why are the residents of Bhiwani being forced to protest for clean drinking water and proper sewerage,” Ramesh said in a post on X.
Citing the latest data from the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), Ramesh said Haryana’s unemployment rate, at 37.4%, is the highest in India and well above the national average.
“Despite repeated promises and announcements, the Bharatiya Janata Party government has failed to provide permanent employment opportunities. Instead, it is promoting temporary contract employment through the Skill Employment Corporation,” he said.
Ramesh said this inaction has left around 200,000 government posts vacant and the recent decision to close Hisar Doordarshan has exacerbated the unemployment crisis, leaving dozens unemployed and wasting valuable infrastructure. Ta.
“The Bharatiya Janata Party’s approach, characterized by empty assurances and a lack of concrete action, has consistently failed the youth. Did the outgoing Chief Minister and his Bharatiya Janata Party have any plans to create better opportunities for the youth of Haryana?” he said.
He further said that Haryana ranks among the bottom five states on this index as it received only 1% of the total bank-backed private projects in India in 2022-23.
“Bank-assisted projects are an important indicator of private investment as well as the health of the banking sector. Experts say poor law and order situation is one of the key factors preventing companies from investing in Haryana,” he added.
Why has the Bharatiya Janata Party failed to attract investment and employment opportunities to Haryana after 10 years of presence in the state, he asked.
“Why have the outgoing chief minister and his double Annie Sarkar failed to address the poor security situation?”
He also said Bhiwani residents were suffering from water scarcity, contaminated water supply and sewage leakage problems.
He said there had been a number of protests over the last month against water pollution and clogged sewers.
The party leader said many roads were filled with sewage due to sewage leaks, and water shortages would only worsen as summer approached.
The situation on the ground has deteriorated so much that residents of Krishna Colony have even threatened to boycott the Indian Lok Sabha elections if the issue is not resolved, Ramesh said.
“Why are the people of Bhiwani still struggling to procure basic necessities even after 10 years of the BJP in power? The outgoing chief minister has insisted that the BJP will resolve these issues even after months of protests. “Can you explain why you were unable to do so?” he asked the prime minister to break his “silence” on the issue.
