The Indian contingent took part in light training a day after arriving in the US to take part in the T20 World Cup.
“We came the day before yesterday and are slowly getting used to the daily routine here. The idea was to get used to the time zone. Today is our first ground session,” the team’s fitness coach Soham Desai said in a video shared by the BCCI on Wednesday.
“They’ve been away from us for two-and-a-half months and the aim was to bring them together and find out where they stand and what they need to do before the World Cup. The aim today is to spend 45 minutes to an hour in the park in this heat and then get moving again,” he added.
Players like captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh and Suryakumar Yadav were seen taking part in the practice session.
“We haven’t played any cricket yet. We are here today for team activities. Hopefully it will go well. The weather is really good so we are looking forward to it,” Bumrah said.
“I’m very excited to be in New York. The atmosphere is good. The sun is shining,” Pandya said.
“It’s my first time playing cricket in New York and it’s going to be so, so much fun,” joked Ravindra Jediya, while Surya said, “I’ve heard cricket is becoming popular in America so I’m really excited.”
As per a report in the Indian Express, Virat Kohli was absent and is likely to miss the team’s only warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1 as he has taken some break from matches after the IPL ended.
India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5 before taking on arch rivals Pakistan on June 9 and then taking on the USA and Canada.
