UPLAND, Ind. (WFFT) — The Indiana Tech baseball team began its NAIA National Tournament run by taking on the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers in the first game of the Upland Bracket hosted by Taylor University. The Warriors were the victims of a miraculous turnaround, with the Grenadiers in first place with 14 wins and 11 losses.

The Orange and Black got off to a quick start, allowing one run in each of the first two innings and leading 2-0 after two innings. After going scoreless in the third inning, Tech University scored four runs in the fourth inning, extending their lead to six points. Grant Besser continued to shut down the Grenadiers’ offense through the first six innings, during which time the Warriors added three more runs to take a 9-0 lead. Tech took a double-digit lead in the top of the seventh inning, but quickly cut the lead to nine points as IUSE scored his first run of the game late in the inning. The 8th inning was similar to the 7th inning, with both teams scoring one run and Polytechnic University going into the final inning with an 11-2 lead. In the bottom of the 9th inning, with two outs, the Grenadiers achieved the impossible, scoring 12 runs, including a come-from-behind walk-off home run, and defeated the Warriors 14-11. Patrick McGinn led the Warriors’ offense with 3 hits and 3 RBIs for 4 at bats.

The Warriors will face Mid-American Nazarene in Game 4 tomorrow at 11 a.m.
