The United States made history by qualifying for its first T20 World Cup in 2024. Entering the tournament as underdogs, the U.S. qualified for the Super Eight round of the tournament with a historic win over 2022 World Cup finalist Pakistan.
However, since qualifying for the Super 8, things have not gone well for the co-hosts, losing both of their first two Super 8 matches and effectively eliminating them from the tournament.

The USA played well against South Africa, falling 18 runs short of the Proteas’ total of 194. Andries Goos’ unbeaten 80 gave the USA a fighting chance, but in the second match against the West Indies, the USA were completely outplayed by the Windies’ bowlers and later the batsmen. The USA set a target of 129 for the Windies to chase, which they achieved with over nine overs remaining, but lost by nine wickets.
One of the main reasons for the USA’s struggles in the Super 8s has been the absence of captain Monunk Patel, who was injured after the Pakistan match and missed the USA’s entire match.
He has already missed two weeks of playing time with the United States and is highly doubtful he will be fit in time for the June 23 game against England.

How was Monanku Patel injured?
According to reports, Monak sustained the injury in a very unfortunate manner as the team was reportedly celebrating lavishly on the team bus as they returned to the hotel after the historic win against Pakistan.
It was during the celebration that Monunk sustained a bruised right shoulder, reportedly causing a rotator cuff injury and a microfracture that has kept him sidelined ever since.

Monanck made a vital contribution to his team’s victory over Pakistan. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored a brilliant half-century and forged a crucial partnership with Andries Guth that brought the US closer to Pakistan’s target of 160 runs. He was awarded the Man of the Match title for his heroic performance after the US won the match in a thrilling Super Over.
