Lanes reopen on Interstate 71 after crash in central business district
Lead the way. good morning. Thank you for joining us this Mother’s Day weekend at 5:00. I’m Tiffany Wilson, and I’m joined by meteorologist Katie Donovan. Have a great Mother’s Day weekend! Weekend day. thank you. And to all the mothers and mother figures in the world. Well, it’s a big weekend. However, today’s weather is not very ideal. Yeah. Not ideal. So we’re going to have a small window for some showers. If that happens, the weather is likely to improve little by little today and especially tomorrow. If you have plans for Mother’s Day weekend, the weather looks a little more bearable into late Saturday. It is currently raining. Nothing so far, but we will probably see the first rains in south-eastern India in the next few hours. And they will last until late in the morning, no later than noon. I see at least a little rain here. Most of them are around northern Indiana and extend into northwestern Ohio. Some of those showers will be heading here again by 7 this morning. There won’t be a lot of coverage, but there’s a strong chance of light rain to start the day. Cool morning with temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. There are currently 51 in Cincinnati. Florence ranks 52nd. 52nd in Dillsboro. Hillsboro has sales in the high 40s and around 49+, and Peebles is heading for highs in the low 60s to around 70 today. So you will feel comfortable. Well, yesterday was a very sunny day that reminded me of autumn. The temperature dropped in the afternoon. It looks like it will be much warmer today than yesterday. Today, the high was around 68 to 70. However, once it passes by 11pm this morning, the hourly forecast calls for significant rain. By 10 o’clock, the temperature is in the low 60s and the faucet finally turns off. Looking ahead to a better Mother’s Day weekend, let’s talk about today’s rain timeline. I’ll be back once it dries out towards the end of Saturday, Tiffany Thank you Katie. We are paying tribute to a local couple who died in a devastating wrong-way accident in Westchester. A sixth grade teacher and her husband were both killed. WLWT News spoke with Stacey Kershaw of Her Five along with her family. I saw her on the Sunday news. I never think it’s someone I know or my girlfriend’s family, but I never think it’s me. At 52 years young, high school students Sweet Patrick and Nicole Pelton were living the dream Sunday night. The unthinkable happened. A wrong-way driver crashed into a car on Cox Road near the Voice of America Center. We are a small family now. We are even smaller. He left two empty seats at the table for his close-knit family. You know. It was very, very fun. And this is a cherished memory for the Pelton family. This is the last time they will all gather for a family dinner. And then there’s Nikki. They actually caught her. I was happy for that because this loss was heartbreaking for loved ones and the entire community. Nicole was a science teacher at Ross Middle School for 22 years. Patrick, Software Engineer. They were both just loving, caring people. The couple was known for their kindness and generosity, and their students were like family to Nicole. Her students meant the world to her. They are all her children and her vision was to get girls in particular interested in stemming and science. So her sister-in-law, Denise Pelton, decided the best way to remember them was to give back. So I decided to set up her GOFUNDME for Pat and Nikki to donate to the school. We simply wanted to further realize Nikki’s vision, and for Pat and Nikki, and for her students, as a fitting way to honor two women who cared so deeply about others. , I wanted to make that happen. I know Pat and Nicky are very happy just sitting here smiling. That was Daisy Kershaw’s report. Now, families have the goal of raising children. $25,000 via GOFUNDME. All proceeds will go to Ross Middle School, where Nicole was a teacher. And there’s a link to the fundraiser in our story at WLWT Dot COM. A Westchester man was found guilty of fatally shooting his wife and three other family members in 2019. In closing arguments, a three-judge panel found Leader Singh guilty of murder. Prosecutors reviewed much of the testimony for the judge, developing a theory that Singh shot and killed all four members of his family and then dumped the guns in the pond behind his apartment. Motives included Shin’s long-standing affair with another woman and financial problems. Victim Williams’ family says the verdict has caused a lot of pain, grief and hurt. At least I felt that a relative was killed today. There was another wound, I touched it. It’s been a rough day for us, and we’ve only heard what we’ve heard, but we can’t believe that justice is finally being served. The sentencing phase begins Monday morning following the death sentence against Gurpreet Singh. The three judges must reach a unanimous decision. We’re learning more about the person found dead in a crashed car in Hamilton. It is now known that the man was stabbed to death. It happened late Wednesday night on Ross Avenue near City Street. Police spoke with the driver, Roger Douglas Cole, 29. A second person was stabbed while trying to steal a car. Police say he took off in the stolen car, but he died from the stab wounds that caused the crash. His death has been ruled a homicide and we are still working to determine if it was a homicide.
