Introducing the 2024 All-Greater Rochester Men’s Tennis Team

Below is the 2024 All-Greater Rochester boys tennis team, determined by a vote of Section V coaches with input from Democrat-Chronicle-Messenger-Post staff.

Player of the Year

--

–

Year: Junior

parents: Dawn and Chip Fish Back

position: First single

Key Results: Won a state title.

Future Plans: Plays Division I tennis.

Why he was named Player of the Year: Drew Fishback is a three-time AGR Player of the Year and arguably the best tennis player in Section V this decade. The junior from Geneva is one of the top high school players in the country. Tennisrecruiting.net ranked Fishback the No. 1 player to watch on its Junior Tennis RPI list in June. Fishback compiled a 28-0 record as a junior. He won the NYSPHSAA singles title match and followed his brother, Ryan, as a state champion.

Drew Fishback, a highly skilled left-hander, has not lost to a Section V opponent since 2021. He has a career record of 99-3 as a four-time Section V champion. Fishback’s most recent two losses came in the NYS Quarterfinals in 2022 and the NYS Semifinals in 2023. In lieu of defending his 2024 NYS singles title next year, Drew hopes to play in the 2025 NYSPHSAA doubles tournament with his brother, Tucker.

Year: Sophomore

parents: Heather and Mark Balsamo

position: First single

Key Results: Team and individual district titles, as well as a state championship.

Future Plans: I want to continue playing tennis and play in college.

Year: Junior

parents: Ishari and Nik Bhatia

position: Second Single

Key Results: They finished sixth in their states.

Future Plans: She hopes to continue improving her skills and play tennis in college in the future.

Year: 7th grade

parents: Joanna and Jeffrey Braugher

position: Second Single

Key Results: They won the Class A1 team division.

Future Plans: Keep playing tennis and improving every day.

Year: Senior

parents: Maia Dorsett and Justin Faye

position: Doubles

Future Plans: Enrolled at the University of Rochester.

--

Year: Sophomore

parents: Lakshmi and Sai Mandava

position: First doubles and third singles.

Key Results: Two-time state tournament appearance (as a team and as an individual).

Future Plans: To continue playing tennis with the goal of playing Division III in college.

Year: Junior

parents: Carrie and John McLaughlin

position: First single

Key Results: They were undefeated in the regular season and have only lost twice this season.

Future Plans: I play tennis and study engineering at university.

Year: Senior

parents: Anhhi Tran and Tim McNamara

position: Second Single

Key Results: They won the Class AA Section V doubles championship.

Future Plans: He will be attending the University at Buffalo and playing club tennis.

Year: Freshman

parents: Maia and Nicholas Mesch

position: First single

Key Results: They were undefeated in doubles during the regular season, won district championships and qualified for the state tournament.

Future Plans: After graduating from high school, I will play tennis in college.

Year: Junior

parents: Meenal and Ashwani Sharma

position: Second Single

Key Results: Visit each state.

Future Plans: I want to continue playing tennis in college.

Year: Freshman

parents: Amy and Kylie Sullivan

position: First doubles

Key Results: He reached the finals of the regional and state competitions and went on to compete in the state competition with his partner Satya Mandava.

Future Plans: I will continue to work hard and improve my game.

Year: Junior

parents: Shelley and Scott Siroff

position: First single

Key Results: He and Dylan Bhatia placed sixth at the state meet.

Future Plans: To somewhere warmer.

Coach of the Year

Profession: He retired from Rochester Telephone Company (Information Systems).

College coaching experience: Pittsford Mendon Boys Tennis 2001-2017, Pittsford Sutherland Girls Tennis 2005-Present, Pittsford Sutherland Boys Tennis 2018-Present.
