CORAOPOLIS, Pa. — A man and woman are accused of stealing more than $1 million from a Coraopolis business.

Allegheny County District Attorney Steve Zappala announced Monday that Joseph Lavas and Tasha Lavas are both facing charges in connection with money stolen from PNP Heating and Air Conditioning Company.

Chris Lavas, Joseph’s son and Tasha’s son-in-law, owns PNP Heating and Air Conditioning and found 66 checks in the past three years that were either cash or made out to Joseph or Tasha.

Chris Lavas told investigators that his father had bought a $1.2 million home in Mexico, and that Tasha and Joseph had both increased their salaries, put $400,000 more on the home, and went out to restaurants and grocery stores without telling their father.

The company estimates that more than $1 million in funds were misused, according to a news release.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the victim and her business,” District Attorney Zappala said. “It’s not easy to run a business these days, much less find out someone has been stealing from you. We take these cases extremely seriously.”

Both Joseph and Tasha are charged with receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking and access device fraud.
